Bonuses bounce back for 55% of IT professionals

More than half of IT professionals received a bonus this year,
suggesting an industry revival for bonus payments after the recession,
according to a report.
Research of computer staff salaries by XpertHR found 55% of IT professionals and managers received a bonus payment
this year. This is higher than pre-recession figures of 52% in 2008 and
a significant rise compared to 47% in 2009 when thousands of IT workers
lost bonus entitlements during the recession.
The highest increase in payments was for managerial roles, from an
average bonus of 12% of basic salary paid to managers a decade ago, to
18% of basic pay this year.

Hope for IT Jobseekers

 There are several
signs that the IT job market is beginning to improve, with fewer
high-profile, large-scale,lay-offs and more job market surveys
producing reasons to be positive. Are things genuinely looking up? The
first quarter of 2009 was a bad one. E-skills’ quarterly bulletin found
demand for permanent and contract staff fell 27% and 32% respectively
on the previous quarter. Unemployment for IT professionals increased
from 2.4% to 3.4%. But the second quarter, while still painful, held
several hopeful signs. Some research found the number of IT jobs on
offer is increasing. The Chartered Institute of Personnel and KPMG say
in their quarterly report that IT vacancies are set to increase in the
third quarter. They interviewed 900 employers.
